Radical Resurrection

Resurrected for What?

Resurrection is a radical experience. It is also at the heart of missions. It is a miracle in every sense of the word. Resurrection power is described biblically as the greatest power in the universe. Any person that has experienced resurrection life has been forever given access to this power (See Ephesians 1:18-21 and 3:20 – “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” )

But what is this new life and power really for?

We have been resurrected…

  • To live! The new life that characterizes salvation is dynamic and can change everything about a person – their attitudes, habits, character, perspective, demeanor, etc. (John 11:25-26)
  • To love others! Because He has loved us we have an increased capacity to show love to our families, friends, co-workers, and our community. (John 13:34)
  • To serve! A person who has experienced new life is no longer driven by power and upward mobility. Instead they discover greatness in serving others. (Matthew 23:10-12)
  • To reach out! The greatest expression of new life is a selfless concern for others that is modeled after God’s unconditional love for us. (1 Corinthians 13)
  • To live a life of mission and sharing the Good News! Following His resurrection, Jesus empowered His disciples with the Holy Spirit and commissioned them to proclaim this message to all of creation. (Acts 1:8)
  • To worship! Resurrection life made fellowship with God possible and deeply personal. Continuous access into His presence creates an opportunity to have a life of worship. (Hebrews 10:19-22)

    May this “new life” motivate you into an active expression of these things. This is what makes resurrection the very heart of missions.

This reminds me of the times I have received an immediate answer to prayer -- today someone was looking for some advise and input I believe God answered my prayer by giving me an Scripture for them.
