I was always nervous about my kids becoming teenagers. I know what teens are famous for -- rebelling and making the lives of their parents miserable. Yeah -- I was afraid of what might happen during my children's teen years. Thankfully, Heidi and I have been graced with two kids that have made it easy for us.
Today is Alicia's sixteenth birthday! I couldn't be more proud of this girl.
I'm proud of her for the following reasons:
1. She cares deeply for people. This might be her #1 quality.
2. She is a person of faith and committed to God.
3. She brings more laughter to our home than anyone else in our family.
4. She always does her best.
5. She has self-respect (this is SO important at this age).
6. She has a good sense of humor.
7. She is fun to hang around.
8. She gets along with her brother and her parents (I think she REALLY likes all of us).
9. She loves art, fashion, movies, animals, friends, travel, dance, reading and interior design.
10. She is ready to get her driver's license and is determined to get a car on her own.
What more could a dad want when his daughter turns 16? I'm really not afraid anymore -- The teen age years can be the best years for parents in kids. I guess now I'm just a little sad to see them growing up so fast. Plus, I can't take the credit for having good kids -- God has to get the real credit -- plus Alicia gets credit for making good choices. I think they're good in spite of me.

Happy Birhtday Alicia. I knew you when you were still a baby; and that only means one thing: I'm getting up there in years.
You are in a loving home under the covering of God. That's huge. Your parents are the best!
